Neighborhood Community Meeting Held June 19, 2007

A neighborhood community meeting was held on behalf of Mayor Pro Tempore William Robinson (Ward 2) and Councilman Robert Elaison (Ward 1). The City of North Las Vegas mailed approximately 400 notifications/invitations to residents. Seventy residents attended the meeting.

Public Information Meeting Held August 10, 2006

A Public Information Meeting was held on Thursday, August 10, 2006 at the City of North Las Vegas Main Library . The meeting was attended by approximately 110 members of the public over its three-hour duration. Project alternatives were displayed and the attendees were encouraged to submit comments for the project record. To submit comments, you may fax or mail the Public Information Comment Form to the number or address on the form. You may also email your comments to info@north5thstreet.com . Please submit all comments by September 1, 2006 .

 

Four Public Workshops Held Between April 26, 2006 and May 30, 2006

The North 5th Street Improvement Project recently completed a series of Public Workshops. Members of the Project Team, including professionals from the City of North Las Vegas, met with over 100 local residents and representatives from 10 businesses within ¼-mile of North 5th Street. Each workshop attendee was provided a short overview of the project and was then asked to complete a questionnaire. The questionnaires are intended to help the Project Team better understand the accessibility and mobility needs of the community and individual concerns.

Many concerns were expressed at the Public Workshops, including the possibility of residents and businesses losing their property to the project. At this time, no decisions have been made regarding property acquisition. However, for more information on the acquisition and relocation process, click here. Other major concerns included access to and from property, increased traffic, and safety in crossing North 5th Street. The North 5th Street Improvement Project is considering these concerns as the Project Team designs a high-capacity roadway with enhanced transit that is pedestrian-friendly. For information on potential alternatives under concideration, click here.

As part of the planning process, the City of North Las Vegas completed a series of public workshops to get the public engaged in discussions regarding the project. During these four workshops, the Project Team assembled information from the residents and business operators within ¼-mile of North 5th Street regarding their current travel patterns and accessibility needs. Each of the four workshops focused on a different segment of the project:

  • Owens to I-15 on April 26, 2006;
  • I-15 to Cheyenne Avenue on May 2, 2006;
  • Cheyenne Avenue to Craig Road on May 16, 2006; and,
  • Craig Road to the Northern Beltway on May 30, 2006.
