The City of North Las Vegas, in cooperation with the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC), is developing plans to improve North 5th Street between Owens Avenue and the Northern Beltway (CC-215), a distance of approximately seven miles.

The goal of the North 5th Street Improvements Project is to provide an enhanced north-south transportation corridor along North 5th Street in the City of North Las Vegas. The Project will evaluate ways to:

  • improve mobility;
  • alleviate traffic congestion;
  • provide transit;
  • provide multi-use trail facilities; and,
  • accommodate growth.

The City is developing plans to widen North 5th Street to 150 feet, converting North 5th Street into a major arterial. The improvements are also intended to promote pedestrian-friendly neighborhoods and provide improved transit service and facilities.

This website provides information about the project .

Project Background

North Las Vegas is the third-fastest growing large city in America, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. One effect of this continued growth is the need for improved transportation in the City to get residents from their homes to their jobs, schools, stores, etc. Of particular importance is the need for an alternate north-south arterial to I-15 to carry traffic from the newly developed residences in the northern part of the City to the employment opportunities in the center of the Valley.

The North 5th Street Corridor is centrally located within the City of North Las Vegas. Like most north-south arterials in the City of North Las Vegas, North 5th Street is discontinuous and in a tumultuous state of development as vacant undeveloped land within the Corridor is actively converted to a variety of private and public uses. In order to address the transportation needs of the City of North Las Vegas, three studies were completed in the last several years:

  • I-15 Northeast Corridor Study
  • Regional Fixed Guideway Feasibility Study
  • North 5th Street Corridor Study
  • Transit orented design study
