| Project Background
North Las Vegas is the third-fastest growing large city in America, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. One effect of this continued growth is the need for improved transportation in the City to get residents from their homes to their jobs, schools, stores, etc. Of particular importance is the need for an alternate north-south arterial to I-15 to carry traffic from the newly developed residences in the northern part of the City to the employment opportunities in the center of the Valley.
The North 5th Street Corridor is centrally located within the City of North Las Vegas. Like most north-south arterials in the City of North Las Vegas, North 5th Street is discontinuous and in a tumultuous state of development as vacant undeveloped land within the Corridor is actively converted to a variety of private and public uses. In order to address the transportation needs of the City of North Las Vegas, three studies were completed in the last several years:
- I-15 Northeast Corridor Study
- Regional Fixed Guideway Feasibility Study
- North 5th Street Corridor Study
- Transit orented design study
